چکیده

Patterned self-assembly is a process whereby coloured tiles self-assemble to build a rectangular coloured pattern. We propose selfassembly (SA) hypergraph automata as an automata-theoretic model for patterned self-assembly. We investigate the computational power of SAhypergraph automata and show that for every recognizable picture language, there exists an SA-hypergraph automaton that accepts this language. Conversely, we prove that for any restricted SA-hypergraph automaton, there exists a Wang Tile System, a model for recognizable picture languages, that accepts the same language. The advantage of SA-hypergraph automata over Wang automata, acceptors for the class of recognizable picture languages, is that they do not rely on an a priori defined scanning strategy.

Strain-less directed self-assembly of Si nanocrystals on patterned SiO2 substrate

Strain induced self-assembled Stranski-Krastanov growth of semiconductor islands on patterned substrate has shown great improvement of island size uniformity and spatial order. Here, we show self-assembled Volmer-Weber (V-W) growth of Si nanocrystals (NCs) on patterned SiO2 substrate via traditional chemical vapor deposition method under certain experimental configurations, induced by surface/i...

A Brief Tour of Theoretical Tile Self-Assembly

The author gives a brief historical tour of theoretical tile selfassembly via chronological sequence of reports on selected topics in the field. The goal is to provide context and motivation for the these results and the field more broadly. Introduction. This tour covers only a subset of the research topics in theoretical tile self-assembly, listed chronologically according to the most intense ...

Guided self-assembly of diblock copolymer thin films on chemically patterned substrates.

We study the guided self-assembly of symmetric/asymmetric diblock copolymer (BCP) films on heterogeneous substrates with chemically patterned surface by using a coarse-grained phase-separation model. During the procedure, the free energy employed for the BCP films was modeled by the Ginzburg-Landau free energy with nonlocal interaction, and the flat, chemically patterned surface was considered ...

On the Artificial Evolution of Neural Graph Grammars

Artificial neural networks and other connectionist models of computation are frequently credited with biological plausibility. Since biological systems are products of Darwinian evolution, network optimisation by artificial evolutions has considerable appeal. However, the computational expense of this can become prohibitive unless an emphasis is placed on modularity and reuse. Gene expression h...

The challenges in guided self-assembly of Ge and InAs quantum dots on Si

The topic of guided self-assembly of Ge and InAs quantum dots on Si (001) substrates via epitaxy is discussed. A buried misfit dislocation network can be used to guide the assembly process through the associated strain field. Patterned substrates can also be used to guide the assembly process. This paper discusses the recent experimental and theoretical studies of the guided assembly process wi...
